Back and low back pain are common complaints in both outpatient clinics and emergency departments. The differential diagnosis of simple mechanical low back pain and low back pain that may require intervention should be clarified. Common causes of back and lower back pain;
Common causes of back and lower back pain
- Mechanical low back pain
- Lumbar disc herniation (herniated disc)
- Rheumatism of the spine (osteoarthritis)
- Böbrek pain (renal colic) etc.
Findings that suggest a serious underlying disease in a patient presenting with back and low back pain;
- Patients older than 50 years and younger than 20 years,
- Öprevious history of cancer or weight lossöyküsü,

- Back pain that does not go away with rest,
- Long-term steroid (cortisone) medication use,
- If there is a sudden onset of leg weakness, numbness, urinary incontinence.
Musculoskeletal pain usually has a sudden onset and is related to physical movement. This type of pain may be associated with or completely independent of factors such as activity, heavy lifting, sitting in the same position for long periods of time. In such patients, muscle spasm is prominent and pain may increase with pressure.
