In full endoscopic lumbar disc herniation surgery, the herniated disc is reached with a thin endoscope advanced through a small entry point. The aim of this approach is to relieve the pressure on the nerve while disturbing the surrounding tissues as little as possible.
In this video, Prof. Dr. Selçuk Göçmen explains how the endoscope passes between the muscles to reach the herniated disc, and how the relationship between the disc and the nerve is evaluated during the operation.

Born in Ankara in 1975, Professor Dr Selçuk Göçmen graduated from GATA Faculty of Medicine in 2000. He completed his specialisation training in Neurosurgery at GATA between 2003 and 2008, subsequently working as a specialist at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital. He attained the title of associate professor during his academic career; he received training in functional neurosurgery and endovascular interventions at Oregon Health & Science University (USA) and Pamukkale University, and also completed Gamma Knife radiosurgery training/certification at the Cleveland Clinic. He was involved in the opening process of the Pamukkale University Gamma Knife Centre and was promoted to professor in 2020.
